How to Set up Store Taxes

Your online store's orders may come from different countries worldwide, and Taxes may apply depending on the country you ship your products to.

In Sitebeat, you can easily set up how taxes are calculated for all your products. Create and manage your Shipping Zones to group the countries, states, or regions you ship to that have similar Tax Rates, then easily assign the Tax Rates per zone.

Note: The Store option is only available for the Sitebeat eCommerce plan and will not appear on all other Sitebeat plans. Suppose you want to set up an online store with complete SSL protection as well as easy setup and monitoring of products and orders. In that case, you will need to upgrade your current Sitebeat plan or purchase a new Sitebeat eCommerce plan.

Setting Up Shipping Zones

Since Tax Rates will depend on where you ship your products to, Sitebeat has included an easy way to set up and manage Shipping Zones for your store.

Set your Sitebeat Store’s shipping zone by following the steps below:

  1. Log In to access the Sitebeat dashboard.
  2. Under My Sites, click the Edit Site option on the website that you wish to manage.
  3. Note: If you want to edit a new site, you have to unpublish the current website and make your new site as your primary website.

    Under My Sites, click the [...] Ellipsis Icon on the top-right corner of the website to unpublish the current site. Click Unpublish Site, and then click Yes, Unpublish to confirm.

    Under My Domains, click the [...] Ellipsis Icon of the website that you want to replace as your primary website, then click Replace Primary. In the pop-up window, select the domain of the new website in the New Primary Domain list, then click Replace Primary. You can also click the Domains tab under My Sites to perform the necessary steps mentioned.

    You can now edit the new site that you wish to manage.

  4. Click Store from the left-side menu.
    If this is your first time accessing this option, click Get Started, and then wait a few seconds for the Sitebeat Editor to add a Store page and Shopping Cart icon to your website.
  5. Click Settings from the Online Store left-side menu, then click Taxes.
  6. Click Manage Zones. A pop-up window will appear.
  7. Click on the Add New Zone button.
  8. Edit the Zone Name.
  9. Add Countries, Regions, or States to your new zone by clicking on their respective buttons and selecting one or multiple items from the list.
    You can also add the Zip/Postal Codes in the box provided, entering only one code per line.
  10. Once done, click Save.

    Note: You can click on the preset Destination Zones on the left-side menu of the pop-up window, to view and edit the destinations within it. While in view, click the Delete button at the top to remove the zone.

  11. Click the [x] Icon at the top-right corner of the pop-up window to go back to Taxes settings.

Setting Up Tax Rates

Now that you've set up your shipping zones, you're ready to set up and assign Tax Rates. If you've just followed the steps above, you can proceed with steps 5-7 from the instructions below:

  1. Log In to access the Sitebeat dashboard.
  2. Under My Sites, click the Edit Site option on the website that you wish to manage.
  3. Note: If you want to edit a new site, you have to unpublish the current website and make your new site as your primary website.

    Under My Sites, click the [...] Ellipsis Icon on the top-right corner of the website to unpublish the current site. Click Unpublish Site, and then click Yes, Unpublish to confirm.

  4. Click Store from the left-side menu.
    If this is your first time accessing this option, click Get Started, and then wait a few seconds for the Sitebeat Editor to add a Store page and Shopping Cart icon to your website.
  5. Click Settings from the left-side menu, then click Taxes.
  6. Click Manage Taxes. A pop-up window will appear.
  7. Click on the Add New Tax button to configure the following:
    Tax Name Edit the default text in the field provided.

    Tick the box for Enabled by default for all products, if preferred.
    Tax applies to Select whether Tax should apply to order Subtotal only, or to the Subtotal + Shipping.

    Tick the box for Include tax in product prices, if preferred.
    Zone defines by Select whether Tax Rates for the zone should be applied based on the customer's Shipping Address or Billing Address.

    If you haven't managed your zones yet, you can click on the Manage zones (global) link beside this field. You will then be routed to the Destination Zones pop-up window.
    Rates per zone If you wish to use one Tax Rate for All destinations, and then you can simply specify the rate in the field beside it.

    If you wish to assign a different rate per zone, click Specify rates per zone, then select a zone from the drop-down list and enter the rate in the field beside it.

    Click the Add Rate button to set up Tax Rates for other zones, and then click the Delete Icon on its right if you wish to remove it.


  8. Click on the Save button when done, and then click the [x] Icon at the top-right corner of the pop-up window to go back to Taxes settings.
